Grey and white cat breeds

A grey and white cat breed is a cat breed that is characterized by the presence of a grey colored coat and white colored coat.

The most common grey and white color scheme is white with black spots (or blotches), but a great variety of other color schemes are also available.

A cat that is grey and white has a coat that is predominantly white, with a color of any other color on the body and the feet.

History

The first documented grey and white color scheme was the Bombay and Bengal cat. The Bombay is a domestic long-haired cat descended from the Indian wildcat Felis chaus. A grey and white color scheme was also documented for the Egyptian Mau (in color tabby and white), which was imported to the United States in the late 1800s. The Egyptian Mau is now extinct in the wild.

This color scheme is now common in the domestic cat population. It is commonly used for pet cats and is a more common color scheme for purebred cats than black and white cats.

Cats that are known as gray and white are also often referred to as "gingy" or "silver" to distinguish them from the more common black and white cat color scheme.

In many countries, cats that are grey and white are considered a rare color scheme. In countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, they are considered an "aristocrat" color scheme.

A recent trend in cat breeding is the cross-breeding of grey and white cats with cats that are white, red, black, and blue to create a greater variety of coat color. These breeds include the Khao-Paw (also known as the Khao-Paw), Lil-Bear, and Gobi-Satin.

The Lil-Bear cat is a cross-breed of the Burmese cat and the Lilac-Spot cat. The Lil-Bear was developed in Japan in the 1970s. The Burmese-Lilac Spot cat is a cross-breed of the American Bobtail and the Bengal cat. The Gobi-Satin is a combination of the Siamese and the Himalayan cat.

In Australia, grey and white cats are also often called gingers. This name was coined because some cats with the coat color appear to be born with an orange coloration on their tail, resembling a ginger root.
